We suppose this tradition began with a dream … a desire to teach and perpetuate fine choral singing in a Christian context. At least part of the reason for starting (and continuing) the Golden Belt Vocal Festival is specifically so home educated students and their parents could have an opportunity to sing with a large group under the direction of an excellent choral director.
Today, we share this vision. We’ve wanted to emphasize four goals for the Festival (originally called the “Golden Belt Vocal Clinic”):
1. To Glorify our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
2. To learn excellent vocal/choral technique
3. To get to know other home schoolers in our state and area
4. To be a good example of home education for the public as they attend the evening concert
The beginning of this tradition was in southwest Kansas in Syracuse in approximately 1992. The “Clinic” moved to Great Bend in 1996 where it was held for three years. In 1999 it moved to Salina where it has occurred yearly since that time.
